On the occasion of the International Day of Zero Waste 2026, the Waste4Soil Project joins the global effort to raise awareness and promote action towards reducing waste and building a more sustainable future.
This year’s theme focuses on food waste, a critical yet largely preventable issue that continues to have significant environmental, social, and economic impacts worldwide. Each year, vast quantities of food are lost or wasted along the supply chain, contributing to environmental degradation, undermining food security, and slowing progress towards a circular economy.
Addressing food waste is essential to achieving more efficient and sustainable agri-food systems. In this context, soil plays a central role. Through improved soil management practices and sustainable approaches, the Waste4Soil project contributes to reducing waste generation and promoting the recovery and reuse of valuable resources within agricultural systems. Healthy soils are key to enhancing productivity, improving resource efficiency, and strengthening the resilience of farming systems in the face of environmental challenges.
By supporting innovation, knowledge exchange, and practical solutions, Waste4Soil aims to foster healthier soils and contribute to the transition towards more circular and sustainable agricultural practices.
As part of this global initiative, we encourage stakeholders, farmers, researchers, and citizens to reflect on their role in reducing food waste and to take concrete steps towards more responsible consumption and production patterns.
